where a warm welcome and great atmosphere awaits all those who wish to enjoy one of the finest board games ever invented.
Trowbridge Chess Club plays in the Somerset and Wiltshire Leagues and caters for those who want to seriously improve their game, or those who simply like to enjoy the fun of friendly games with those fiendish wooden pieces.
We meet once a week at the Conservative Club in Trowbridge (Thursdays 7.30pm-10.00pm) throughout the season (Sept. - May) and for those who are really keen we can offer the facilities during the summer months.
Many thanks to Dave Marshall for the updates via SMS, who (despite good form all season) had an error-prone weekend. (I suspect over-indulgence at Blackpool's many excellent hostelries.)

The start of the 2009 - 2010 season and a glorious triumph for our web editor!
The game shown here was played by Gareth Williams, who arrived in Taunton for the WECU Jamboree match with just a minute to spare before being defaulted. Playing 29 minutes behind on the clock he offered a brave pawn sacrifice, and managed to lull his higher-graded opponent Robert Thompson into a false sense of security. Gareth won a queen for rook and took home the point. The game can be replayed here.
4 Trowbridge regulars helped Wiltshire to achieve victory in the annual West of England Chess Union Jamboree, with a crucial win on board 15 for web editor Gareth Williams.
