Girdlestone’s Grid is a club competition on a ladder basis to be played throughout the season. Rules of the tournament are attached below the tables |
|
RULES
The Ladder allows club members to play as many games as they wish (although only 5 games will count towards the most improved club player). N.B. Matches need not be played at the club for those who wish to play at other times.
It is key that as matches are played that results are communicated to Paul Girdlestone, with responsibility to do so resting with the winner or player of the Black pieces if drawn.
It will be assumed that all games will be graded unless otherwise advised to Paul in advance. It will need both players to agree beforehand if the game is not to be graded.
Time control for graded games remains at 35 moves in 75 mins with a 15 minute fast finish. Other games by agreement.
Colours : For a first match The Challenger (Lower placed Player) has White (NB the challenger needs to win to move up). Any second game that may occur the colours will be reversed and so on.
Player Responsibilities: This tournament places emphasis on all players to keep games ticking along and as a general rule a minimum of one game per month with help the tournament to run smoothly. This will avoid ‘blockages’ and allow players to advance up the ladder.
Opponents: Are determined by those you can 'challenge' (Higher placed players) and those from whom you must meet a challenge (lower placed players). Only a win will allow the lower placed player to swap places with the loser. To hopefully avoid ‘blockages’ a player can challenge anyone up to three places above his current league position. Paul Girdlestone will review this at the end of the year once some games have been played and will seek your input at this time. A challenge must be met but if successfully defended against the player then he has the right to challenge someone else before he needs to defend against another.
Initial Positions have been drawn randomly with a mix of group players at various league positions. |
