TROWBRIDGE CHESS CLUB

TIM  WOODWARD

Tim has been associated with the club for many years and is a strong league player. Plays in many Chess Congresses throughout the year.

MARK LEONARD

Mark has recently joined Trowbridge Chess Club and applies the skills of his day job (software programming)  to put the wind up many of his opponents.

DAVE WESTON

Dave is one of those frustrating individuals that wouldn't know the difference between a Giucco Piano or an electric guitar as he never studies any openings. He does however continually perform extremely well in league matches, showing that some people have a natural talent for the ‘simple ‘ game.

About to win an important league match or waiting for liquid refreshments?

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD A WON GAME THAT DAMNED HORSE CAME TO THE RESCUE, HOW DOES HE DO THAT?

NIGEL CRUCIFIX

PAUL GIRDLESTONE

Paul is without doubt the strongest player in the club with a current grading of just over 198! At Christmas 2007 Paul played a simultaneous exhibition against the other members of the club. Fortunately one of the matches was won by a mere mortal (the Heavy Metal Man) showing that he still has some way to go before he can call himself a chess legend.

GARETH  WILLIAMS

Gareth describes himself as Jack of all trades also having keen interests in Golf, Cricket, and Music. He assures us this picture is of himself twenty or so years ago, but we know better don’t we...eat your heart out Mr. Russian Grandmaster just because you did well at Frome this year!

PAUL HATVANY

Paul has played chess for many years and is living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks  as he continues to tie his opponents in knots year after year with his guile and cunning.

TONY  RANSOM

A Club Stalwart Tony single handedly runs all the teams and organizes various other tournaments throughout the year. Tony puts his heart and soul into the club and even gets the chance to play now and again.

DAVE  MARSHALL

We all have our crosses to bear and Dave’s is the fact that he supports Arsenal! A keen chess player and another regular visitor to the Blackpool Congress Dave has actually been able to cope with all the alcohol and win on one of his visits! Is he auditioning for the Blues Brothers we all wonder?

ADRIAN  DAVIS

Heavy metal fans aren’t usually associated with Chess but with Adrian we have  just that. A regular visitor to the Blackpool Chess Congress,  apart from his partner Adrian loves nothing more than a few pints, loud music and the 8x8 board — in that order! Here he is seen at Blackpool celebrating a crushing victory...now for a drink.

Better would have been….! Some post match analysis in one of Blackpool’s  many Taverns.

ROY LUDLOW

A retired ex Head Teacher Roy hadn’t played chess for many years when he got back into the game just over three years ago (when he had previously played seriously there wasn’t a grading system!). Keen as mustard Roy is proving that teachers can walk the walk aswell as chalk and talk when it comes to chess! Click on Roy’s speech balloon to read his Milton Keynes exploits.
